The Arcadia Collection is a strategic addition to an inherent problem Jaxx used to face every year. Sales inevitably spike during the holidays and taper off slowly as the summer begins--my team was challenged to solve this problem. By offering a line of cleverly engineered, high quality, and affordable outdoor-centric products, Jaxx was able to bridge the sales gap during the off-season, drastically improving our cash flow and turning Jaxx into a year-round revenue generating machine. The Arcadia Collection is the third generation of an outdoor bean bag line that hits an affordable price point, offers a forward-thinking aesthetic and prioritizes comfort. This collection was featured in the 2016 International Contemporary Furniture Fair—a first for Jaxx.

Materials

The Arcadia collection uses a combination of Sunbrella solution dyed acrylic and indoor/outdoor Ultraleather. This combination gives a rich aesthetic, luxurious hand, and superior comfort to each piece.

Arcadia Ottoman

The Arcadia Ottoman pairs perfectly with the Arcadia Lounge Chair, giving you pure euphoric support from head to toe.

Arcadia Chair

The Arcadia Chair provides an upright seating posture with plenty of customizable back support. The seat height of the Arcadia Chair falls just over 17”, ideal for proper ergonomic in the knees, hips, and lower back.

Arcadia Bench and Table Set

The Arcadia Bench is a great solution for collaborative spaces. The lightweight, supportive benches cater to a dynamic flex space without sacrificing comfort. The Arcadia Table offers a sturdy yet casual surface, suitable for a round of drinks in the summer or a game of cards in the winter.

Top Stitch

A bonded nylon top stitch runs along the Ultraleather components on each piece in the Arcadia Collection. This serves both form and function, reinforcing the seams and displaying Jaxx's unmatched quality.

Concept Development

Opportunity

My team had an idea for how to help solve our "wavy line" problem. We hypothesized that if we could develop furniture that sells in the summer months, we can bridge the sales gap—increasing our yearly cash flow and propelling us into the holidays fully stocked.

Imagine

My team spends a lot of the day immersed in Jaxx's existing products. So to start imagining new ideas, we got outside of the building—and into homemade hammocks whipped up in the Design Studio.

Imagine

Based on our initial ideas, my team generated a series of sketches exploring possible aesthetics and seating configurations. These sketches guided our next phase—prototyping.

Prototype

My team took inspiration from our concept sketches and quickly built them out to assess their design and functionality. The result was a sea of samples, all offering unique insights into how the product line could evolve.

Refine

Once we arrived at a solid prototype, we tested each of the products against the human form. In this stage, we challenged ourselves to think of all the ways someone might use each design so that we could anticipate their needs.

Validate: Labor Studies

Aggressive price points on these products ensure their success on the market, so my team walks through every step of the manufacturing process to validate our costs once final materials are selected.

Generation One

We started with a modest offering—we had to test whether Jaxx could compete in the outdoor bean bag market. In its first two quarters, Jaxx's outdoor line brought in a modest $85,000 in revenue, which was enough to prove the concept.

Generation Two

Over the next quarter, my team expanded our line and polished our creative assets. With traction on our product listings and a fresh look and feel, Jaxx's outdoor line produced over $200,000 in revenue during its second summer.

Launch Generation Three: ICFF

We officially launched the third generation of Jaxx's outdoor line, the Arcadia Collection, at the 2016 International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) in NYC. This was the first time a Jaxx product was featured at the event. In its third summer, Jaxx's outdoor collection is on pace to approach $500,000 in revenue.
