Chick-fil-A® Packaging
The Picnic Pack was created for Chick-fil- A as part of a SCAD Sponsored Studio in partnership with their internal Innovation Lab. It is designed for the guest on the move. Whether they are in the car, on a bike, or walking to work, this packaging is meant to cut the clutter and instability out of on-the- go dining.
The Picnic Pack series features modular packaging units, personalized stamps, and a revamped visual identity across the line.
Interlocking handles make Picnic Packs easy to take anywhere.
Special instructions are indicated with a stamp, adding a personalized detail to every order.
Stamps indicate "Spicy", "Special", and "Cheese"
Sauce holders help to keep condiments from spilling.
concept development
(Concept to completion in 10 weeks)
My team drew inspiration from our initial concept sketches and started building with raisin boxes. This turned out to be a huge time saver and gave valuable insight into the limits of our material and the validity of our concepts.
Once we refined our concept, we modeled our strongest concepts using Rhino 3D and Keyshot.
This step in the process gave us insight into the strengths and challenges of each design, raising questions like: How will these stack on a shelf? How will this design react in true materials?
Once the forms were modeled out, we explored what the collection might look like with the graphics and color scheme my team designed.
With the graphics and scale honed in, we moved on to physical prototyping and validation of our final designs.
My team explored a number of production methods for the packaging. I hand-turned the stamp prototypes on a wood lathe. However, the process needs to be refined for proper implementation at scale.
My team used our knowledge of the concepts, materials, and manufacturing processes to assemble our final designs, which we presented to Chick-Fil-A executives.
